Minimalist Wood Sculpture Fine Art Wood Sculpture on Illuminated Glass Core

ILLUMINATED SCULPTURE

My illuminated sculptures reveal the elemental form and grain in a piece of Coastal Northern California Monterey Cypress. Fascinating details and hidden beauty are revealed from light emitting from the center of the sculpture, flowing out from each individual slice. A warm, white light traces the contours of the wood capturing beautiful patterns from all angles.

THIS PIECE

This piece has a great form to it, an intriguing shape from every direction. It is stout and bold with a beautiful pattern of light that is emmitted between each slice. It is a very dramatic piece in my collection. It has a 3 meter black cloth cord from Germany with a 2 prong plug and switch. 115v AC.

MAKING THIS SCULPTURE

This is truly a one-of-a-kind handmade, fine art sculpture made from an individual piece of wood taking more than 80 hours to complete. I find limbs from cypress trees and hand select, cut, and split each piece attempting to find a unique form. Most of the pieces I split are discarded as I look for only the most intriguing ones. Once I find a special piece, I further refine it, then slice it to bring out the details in the overall shape and grain, sand the faces to a fine surface, and finish with 3 layers of UV protecting clear urethane. The wood is drilled to accept a glass core and a rubber grommet to hold the slice around the glass. The base is carved out to fit a 350ma constant current LED driver, solid aluminum heat sink which protrudes as an architectural feature from the rear, light and lens. The wood is placed around the glass core illuminating it with a warm white (3000k) LED. A beautiful 3 meter German cloth-cord is attached to the sculpture with a Leviton switch 14” from the sculpture. A felt base for a scratch-free surface is attached to the bottom to complete the sculpture. The parts I use in this illuminated sculpture are UL and CE listed but the artwork itself is not listed or approved.
